A Dewar flask is a vessel designed to provide very good thermal insulation. The design of the flask is usually made either of a glass or metal bottle with a double-layer construction whereby the two thin-walled bottles are nested one inside the other and sealed together at the neck. The narrow space between the two walls is a near vacuum to minimise conduction and convection of heat.
A very common use of the Dewar flask is for the storage of liquid nitrogen because the excellent insulation of the flask results in a very slow "boil" and thus the nitrogen lasts a long time without the need for expensive refrigeration equipment.
